Kayakers needed at Charity Swim...
Come and help our 350+ swimmers achieve their goal.
We are looking for canoeists and kayakers to help at the Hospiscare outdoor one mile swim challenge at Roadford Lake, Okehampton. You will need to be a competent canoeist/kayaker and available from 8am– 2pm on Saturday 24 September 2011.
For your help you will receive two complementary nights camping at Roadford Lake, breakfast and lunch on the day of the swim, and a great day out with a chance to meet fellow canoe/kayak lovers from around the county!
Don’t rush off on Saturday as there will be a social evening and BBQ (well supply the BBQ you need to bring the food and drink) after the event so stick around for a great evening then on Sunday if you’re up to it the chance to explore the lake before heading home.

Following the hugely successful Paralympic Handover in September, and having nowhad our Disability Officer Steve Hillman in post for eight months, we thought we’d give you a bit more insight into the fantastic progress being made with disability sport in Cornwall. Last month Steve delivered a Multi-Sports event at Brannel School in St Stephen. With judo, boccia, basketball, table tennis and fencing on the programme, the day went brilliantly and smiles were also big on the agenda!Further Multi-Sports Events are currently being organised and Steve is also delivering the Sports Leaders Inclusion Certificate to eight Gifted & Talented students at Doubletrees School in St Blazey, so that they can sustain a lunch time and after school games club for younger pupils. This is a pilot programme and will hopefully be replicated across the county soon. He’s been working with the British Surf Association to develop opportunities for people with disabilities and you can frequently find him delivering activity sessions at Falmouth and Newquay Age Concern. Collaborating with the School Sports Partnerships, he is also working on the ‘Playground to Podium’ project, planning events and activities for a disability sports competition. Watch this space for further developments!
